what is spartannn?

we are a gym for the brain. It is a place you can go to build mental strength, power and endurance so that you can function better in life.

We offer simple and effective 1-1 mental fitness personal training (MFPT) sessions. You will work with a MFPT to complete practical brain exercises that will get you working different parts of your brain

WHY WOULD I WANT TO USE DIFFERENT PARTS OF MY BRAIN?

The Science Bit…

When life is sticking it to us and times are tough, the brain and body do not function properly to regulate our cortisol (stress hormone) levels, so we get too much cortisol.

Everybody has high cortisol from time to time, it’s part of our body’s natural response to threats of harm or danger.

But… if your body consistently makes too much cortisol over a prolonged period of time, it is more likely that this will keep the part of your brain that looks for threat in the environment, switched on.

The problem with this is, this part of our brain is always on guard, it doesn’t know how to relax and it isn’t innovative…. it can’t think of new ideas, it likes to keep us stuck in the same old patterns of behaviour, because it thinks it’s keeping us safe by doing this.

Therefore, if we want to find new solutions to move ourselves forward in life, we need to activate different parts of our brain so that good chemicals can be produced and reduce the cortisol levels in our system, good chemicals such as…

serotonin

makes us feel more calmer, confident and in control

dopamine

makes us feel excited and motivated

oxytocin

helps us to feel more compassionate and able to care for others

endorphins

natural pain relief

The Great News is…

Our brains aren’t set in stone, they are able to rewire, build new connections, and new networks, and it doesn’t take long at all for the brain to do this, usually within 8-12 weeks you will notice these new connections in your brain as you naturally start coming up with new ideas and doing things differently and making changes in your life that feel right for you.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

WHAT IS AN MFPT?
A Mental Fitness Personal Trainer (MFPT) is a new innovative idea we have created at Spartannn Brain Gym.

You will not find MFPTs anywhere else at the moment (although we hope this will change over the next 10 years!!). With this then, we understand that you may have lots of questions about what happens in sessions and what outcomes to expect, please see our FAQs on the “services” page for more information.

Simply put, an MFPT is very similar in some ways to a personal trainer for the body. A MFPT helps their clients to achieve their personal mental fitness goals, some examples of goals from previous clients have included:

  • Coping with a difficult life situation
  • Coping better with stress
  • Able to perform well under pressure
  • Dealing with past issues and moving forward / letting go
  • Improving confidence to make changes to life
  • Enjoying life and being happier
MFPTs do this by delivering a safe and effective brain workout programme and providing guidance, support and motivation during sessions and throughout the client’s journey.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF AN MFPT?

There are many benefits of mental fitness personal training, for example:

  • Learning the correct form: a MFPT will guide you on how to use the brain exercises most effectively. Our brains are more likely to be inefficient when we are overwhelmed in life or stuck in a rut, and our concentration and focus can be quite poor. The brain can wonder off topic or focus on the wrong thing. MFPTs will be your anchors and lighthouse, they will keep you focused and on track at all times, steering you in the right direction to achieve maximum effect in each session.
  • Knowledge and experience: MFPTs have a huge amount of knowledge on how the brain works and on how to perform and teach the practical brain exercises. They also have personal experience of using the exercises themselves. Working with a MFPT means you benefit from this information without needing to do the research yourself, or having to trial alternative methods that are unsafe and not effective.
  • Safe and effective: because this is not therapy and you will not be talking about your problems, there are no risks involved with mental fitness personal training. Sessions are effective and you can see the changes very quickly, clients usually report they feel instantly better and more hopeful after the first session and can start to see changes in as little as 4 sessions. We recommend between 8-16 sessions are usually needed in order for the brain to build up multiple connections and new neural pathways that create the long lasting changes
  • Pushing your limits: MFPTs are passionate and supportive, but they’ll also challenge and motivate you to push yourself further. It is much easier to smash through your mind barriers and try new ways of doing things when working with a MFPT.
  • Being held accountable: sometimes the toughest battle is just getting to the brain gym! We get it! Having an MFPT keeps you accountable on your brain fitness journey, so you can reach your goals quicker.
  • Receive a training plan: MFPTs will create a mental fitness training programme to suit your needs, abilities and goals, making sure it is challenging but achievable.
WHY USE A MENTAL FITNESS PERSONAL TRAINER?
  • Knowing where to start: seeking help can be intimidating, and its easy to feel a bit overwhelmed. The MFPTs at spartannn are here to get you up and running, back on top of things and moving forward and give you support where you need it.
  • Achieve your goals as a team: whatever your mental fitness goal, working with a MFPT will challenge you and help you get there quicker than on your own.
  • Train the best way: MFPTs are experts in using the brain exercises and are committed to showing you the best and safest way to train your brain.
